Saturday 25th February: Down the length of Malta - Part 1
This was indeed a very challenging walk in excellent weather where from our starting point (Cirkewwa) twelve ramblers (including a 76-year old) strove to walk all the way down the island. From Cirkewwa we reached St.Agatha's Tower (aka it-Torri l-Ahmar), descended towards ic-Cumnija, continued to il-Prajjet until we arrived at il-Mixquqa (Golden Bay) at about 10:00am. Using secondary roads and footpaths we continued till we reached the old chapel of il-Kuncizzjoni ta' Wied Gerzuma at about noon. After a well-deserved break, we headed towards Dingli Cliffs, passing by ta' Wied Rini and ta' Baldu area. Here we stopped to see the site where the medieval chapel of San Gakbu might be located. Using secondary roads and footpaths we reached Buskett where we had another rest. At 2:30 pm we descended through Wied il-Luq, crossed Wied il-Girgenti and continued till we reached the tal-Providenza chapel at 4pm. Here it was agreed to stop for the day, and continue this walk another time until we reach Delimara.
Walk leader: Simon
